- Prior to joining the Joint Commission, Mr. Smith served as network safety manager for the US department of Veterans Affairs Southeastern Region in Atlanta, Georgia. He also served the VA as the National Fire Department Program Manager with responsibility for all VA operated fire department in the nation. He has more than 34 years experience in the safety and fire protection fields.
- For more than 20 years, Mr. Smith healthy Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification in Comprehensive Practice. For the same period, he was a Professional Member of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) and ASHE. Mr. Smith also served as a VA representative to the Interagency Federal Fire Service Task Force and to the National Fire Protection Association.
