Ordinarily, we would not want to make a last minute change in an announced WebNR. However, we have just been presented with a unique opportunity that we want to bring to you in as timely a manner as possible. This past April, in our review of "UPDATE: Progress at The Center for Transforming Healthcare", we referenced Mr. Rick Morrow. At that time Mr. Morrow was TJC's Director of Business Excellence and the chief architect of the Lean Six Sigma system in Dr. Mark Chassin's Robust Process Improvement™ (RPI) concept. Rick also led the Center for Transforming Healthcare's collaboration and problem solving with leading health care organizations. We have been greatly intrigued by RPI, which was credited in the development of the first 'Booster Pak' on Safe Medication Storage (MM.03.01.01). After an interview with Mr. Morrow and Dr. Schyve we also came to believe that an RPI-like approach could well be the future of performance improvement in the Joint Commission and perhaps healthcare. You may recall from that review that we were hoping to obtain background material on RPI for you but had not been able to do so. Mr. Morrow has recently left his position with TJC and for a brief time may have more flexibility to share his insights and some helpful references. In order to take advantage of his availability, we are going to pre-empt our scheduled topic (which will be re-scheduled in August) to allow us to present a special interview with questions and answers on the new topic:
Lean Six Sigma and Robust Process Improvement™: Is this the Future for TJC, PI and QI?
General Description: In this Interview, we will briefly review the history of TJC's development of Robust Process Improvement™. We will explore and briefly explain the Lean Six Sigma tools and concepts that form the underpinning for RPI. And, we will also delve into the implications in all this for quality/performance improvement and survey/standards compliance in the future. Mr. Morrow has graciously agreed to take questions at the end
Presentation Outline: I – TJC and Robust Process Improvement™ II – Lean Six Sigma, Concpets & Tools III - Implications for the Future III – Q&A
Please facilitate our discussion by sharing your relevant questions, survey experience and any policies that have been particularly effective for you. Thank you R. Fields, MD
